How the company was founded

Tasos Vassiliadis from Larissa, founder of the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development on a trip to Brussels, heard it said that the EU has money to spend on innovation, but there are no businesses to absorb it. So, his idea was born to create a mechanism to facilitate and accelerate the production of innovative businesses by transferring the knowledge that is "stagnating" in university laboratories. In March 2020, on the day of the first lockdown, having crystallized in his mind the plan for JOIST, he bought the building of the Larissa Metal Co-operative and created the JOIST Innovation Park.

What type of company it is

JOIST provides a wide range of services and areas where people can learn, connect, work together, play, exhibit, and develop. It is a crucial destination for academic institutions, SMEs, startups, business-minded people, scientists, and those passionate about innovating new concepts, goods, and services.

Which open innovation practice are you describing

The JOIST Innovation Park develops novel methods for innovation adoption by people and organizations with various backgrounds and objectives. It makes sure that its community is strong and that the ideas of its people develop and flourish. In four clusters, including Digital Health (eHealth), Educational Technology, AgriTech, and Digital Tourism (eTourism), it promotes knowledge distribution and management, entrepreneurship, builds collaborative networks, and offers inclusive working methods. For academic institutions, SMEs, business-minded people, innovation lovers, start uppers, and anyone else interested in creating, experimenting with, and learning new things, this four-cluster system serves as their point of contact.

Why it was successful

Because those passionate about innovation have the chance to share their interest and participate actively.

Who is the target group of the solution

Entrepreneurs, start uppers, members of organizations, lovers of innovation, scientists & members of the academic community.

What is the portability of the practice and are there any transversal aspects for application across other sectors

Individuals from diverse sectors and professions are welcome to become part of the JOIST Innovation Park community, where they can gain valuable insights from cross-sector interactions that hold the potential to enhance their own sector. Moreover, this can be applied internationally not only in the surroundings of Greece.
